We are faced with compromise all day, everyday. How we handle it, that is up to us.

I find myself facing compromise, the most, in my career. However, it also occurs with family, friends, and even when I am alone.

If you are making a decision and there is one hint of "oh, I don't know about that," you are compromising if you go through with it.

For me, acting and dancing can bring about compromise in all different forms. From a scene, language, the actions, the way I dress, the character I am playing, the meaning behind the show/movie, the way I dance, and the list goes on. Sure, I can get auditions all the time, but if any of those things are within the project, I know it isn't from the Lord.

People will argue with that. They may bring up the fact that this is a door opening, it is your dream project, etc. If it is my dream project, if it is the job the Lord wants me to have, THERE WILL BE ABSOLUTELY NO COMPROMISING because compromise isn't from the Lord.

I can know a group of celebrities, but they may be into doing things that aren't godly...BUT they could boost my career and get my name out there.
Who cares? God has more power than them. God is more popular than they are. He will get my name out there, in the right time, using HIS power.

I can have an audition where my character is as sexual as a porn star, so my career will skyrocket if I book it. Since it seems like a 'sex tape' is the easiest way to get famous now, I should do it!
WHO CARES?! Is that really a Christ-like project to be apart of? NO!

God will bless you for standing your ground and standing up for what you believe in.
"If you don't stand for something, you will fall for everything."

If it is a God ordained job, friendship, etc., there will be no sense of compromise. There will be only things of "life" spoken of. AND THOSE are the friends/projects that will prosper you and me in life because God is at the center.

So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.

This morning I received a text message that said,

"When we strive to think like Him, speak like Him, see like Him, and feel like Him, everything else just falls into place."

We have 24 hours in a day to get our needs done. When we add in our sleep time, we have around 16 hours left in a day. For me, I then add in school and I am down to about 12 hours. After that, I usually either spend time in church, in my career, with family and friends, or working out. Before you have time to stop and think, you are onto the next day.

Everyday we have the opportunity to be like Him more and more. We are His light here on Earth. At times, we get so caught up in our problems, that we forget about His light. We forget how to speak like Him, see like Him, or to feel and love one another like Him. We aren't here to make our own schedules and live out the life we want for ourselves. We are here to be like Him... live our life like His.

Alone you can do nothing; With Him... well that is when you can do everything.

We need to S T R I V E to live like Him. Go out of our way to have a mind like our Father's.

So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, ...

Life here on Earth will be gone before we know it. We need to support one another in the call God has put on their life. We need to strive to treat others the way we wish to be treated.

I had a wake-up call on this recently. I love to receive the love from others because I felt a lack of love in certain areas throughout the first 19 years of my life. However, it has come to the point that I won't be able to receive anymore love because I am keeping what I have received inside of me. I need to pour out that love onto others. I need to give back more than what people are giving me. I need to strive to love others before I do my first thing in the morning; before I eat my meals; before I go to school; before my life is over.

As sad as this sounds, we could be spending our last few minutes here on Earth right now. Are you striving to live like Him?

We all need those people who will show us that unconditional love time and time again, even when we shouldn't receive it. Thank you to Christian, my family, and my church family for going out of their way to be like Christ.

Those three hours spent with the kids are some of my favorite hours throughout the week. THEY, yes I said it...THEY teach ME so much. I love watching them from afar to see how their personalities carry them from one conversation to another. Another thing I learn from them is how to brush things off. Kids are constantly getting hurt or into trouble. Sure, they cry or scream, but come on...that literally only lasts a few minutes until someone loving comes along to assure them that their boo-boo will be okay. Then before you know it, they are back to giggling and loving every second they get.

While playing a warm-up game with them yesterday, I cut my arm on an object. It was on the inner side of my right arm, at the crease of my elbow. Every time I moved my elbow, I could feel a pinch or a stretch. Not to mention, it was bleeding...and I don't do well with blood.

Everyone experiences pain. Whether it be physical or emotional pain, it is still pain...and it always hurts us.

When you ask men what they think of when they hear the word pain, most of them say something along the lines of an injury or some sort of physical pain.

When you as ladies what they think of when they hear the word pain, most of them say something along the lines of a broken heart or some sort of emotional pain.

Most people know this line from the song 'Stronger' by Kelly Clarkson:

"What doesn't kill you makes you stronger."

I also agree that pain is put in our life for a reason. However, how we handle the pain is going to be the outcome. That 'reason' may not come to pass.

Some people take pain on so horribly, that they cycle into depression or even hurt others. When I was going through a hard time a year or so ago, my mom told me a really good line that I have forever held in my heart...

Hurting people, hurt people.

You might be in a situation where you are in so much emotional pain because someone has verbally or emotionally abused you, that it just tears you apart. You feel that you have no other way to respond to the pain but to be angry with those closest to you. Then they get hurt and the cycle continues.

As much as we all struggle with pain, God doesn't want us to be upset, angry, or hurt. Yes, pain is apart of life. However, it is there to show us what really matters and to grow from it.

I have dealt with my share of physical pain and emotional pain. From being almost paralyzed with my back to stressing my tendons in my foot and being on crutches to having those closest to me breaking my heart and tearing me down with their words.

Pain isn't easy to deal with and I don't think it should be. If it was easy to deal with, nobody would grow from their experiences and be able to help others in need.

How do I deal with pain?

I am not one to talk to aloud to someone about my pain. (I know....that looks like a red flag!) I prefer to write about it. I love that because then when pain hits me later on, I can turn back to my old pain and see how much stronger I have become since then. I also enjoy writing my pain into songs. However, my favorite way to handle pain...

I turn to my Lord and Savior. The one who took on the worst pain so that I could have my life! When I think about all that Jesus went through before and as He was being hung on the Cross, that honestly makes all my pain disappear. Because I can't even IMAGINE how much that beating physically hurt Him. However, He did it because He loves me...and to me, that makes me so grateful for my life and makes me realize that my hurt is just a stepping stone in what my life will beautifully unfold to.

Whether it's a scratch on your arm or seeing your ex with someone new, we all experience wounds. It's just how we choose to heal them that makes all the difference.

Sometimes we are even more than two people. We want to fit in with a certain group of people, so we act one way. We have to be accepted by our family, so we act another way. However, my personal favorite is who we are when no one else is watching.

I haven't posted on my blog in a couple of months because I had a really hard time figuring out what I wanted to write about. Last night, it totally hit me. Since 2012 started, I have been around some people that can impact your life in such a good way and then you see them turn around and impact your life in such a bad way. The worst part is, they don't even know they are impacting you in a bad way.

Which is why I hate social networking sites so much.

You see pictures of these people, surrounded by their friends, and all you can think about is who have they become.

Young adults have become so wrapped up in what people think about them. You can sit there and say that isn't true, but there is always that longing to be accepted. We want to fit in with a certain group of people. So, we will do whatever they are doing to be accepted.

Then, we venture home that night and have to hide that side from our parents. We know that they would never accept that side of us...so, we morph into who they would want us to be.

The next stop is when we close our bedroom door.
That is who you really are.

What do you think about when you are all alone?

A lot of people tell me that I am a 'good girl' and I never do anything bad. That is simply because I don't want to. I don't want to have to act like someone else around a certain group of people. Because really, who are they? What are they going to do in my life that will make me a better or a more successful person?

When I was competing at Miss California's Outstanding Teen this past year, my onstage question was about whether or not parents should have access to their children's social networking sites. My answer was simply this:
"Yes, I do think parents should have the right to view the social networking sites that their children are partaking in. If the child is trying to hide something, that clearly means they shouldn't be doing it in the first place. So, I strongly think children should give their parents the right to view their social networking sites."

In my opinion, we should live our lives by that. If we are trying to hide something from someone, then that clearly means we shouldn't be doing whatever we are doing.

So, which person do you want to be?

1 Corinthians 12:27
Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.adrienneberryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04338831569442214065noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2141693286369224539.post-67147802109490164572012-02-07T16:21:00.000-08:002012-02-07T16:21:00.886-08:00Beauty, Really? When you look in the mirror, what do you see?
Do you feel beautiful? Ugly?

Being a teen girl is hard enough with school, friends, parents, boys, and the list goes on. For some reason, we always put an extra pressure on ourselves to be beautiful. We KILL ourselves to get that one boys attention or to hear the 3 words, "you look beautiful."

Whether it be in putting on more make-up, styling our hair a certain way, having the best clothes, or hardly eating, girls are constantly striving to be beautiful.

I think the biggest pressure girls put on themselves is to be thin.

We look at TV stars or Victoria Secret models and see their bodies...stick thin. We also see that guys are in awe of these girls. So, we think if we look like them, we can get a guys attention, too!

It may not be that you want to be thin for a guy; maybe it is because of your parents.

Your parents might tell you to loose weight or stop eating so much! Then you get upset and they say that they are just looking out for you and the cycle continues.

Some girls take things to extremes. You might become very cautious of what you are eating, record your calories, workout all the time, or even worse, fall into the trap of an eating disorder.

Being obsessive about your weight won't change a thing about what you're feeling in your heart. Your longing to feel beautiful won't be found by what you see in the mirror.

God created us in the perfect image of Him. We all have different flaws or things we don't like about our appearance... but God blessed us with those differences for a purpose.

I know for me, I have a very small figure. You can easily tell when I loose definition in my arms, stomach, or legs. Also, it is VERY obvious when I put on a few pounds. The worst part is, I AM OBSESSED WITH FOOD. I literally eat just because I am bored or think it is fun. Growing up, I kind of ate whatever I wanted and didn't see anything change in my body because I was always active with my running and dance. When I moved to California, I was no longer on a cross-country and track team, nor dance team. Yes, I still dance and run, but not like I used to. However, I kept eating the same way. Eventually the food caught up with my body and I began to fill out. Now, another problem... I eat when I am sad. Seeing that I was gaining weight, I became sad! WHICH MADE ME WANT TO EAT SOME COOKIE DOUGH ICE CREAM!!!!

One morning when I was reading my bible, I came across this verse:
Beauty isn't defined by what you see when you look in the mirror. I looked at the dictionary definition, which stated:

I still feel like we are in 2010. I almost felt like I had wasted an entire year of my life.

That day, as I sat down to read my bible, it became aware to me that 2011 was my growing year. God knew that I needed to grow up mentally and physically. Turning 18 and becoming a legal adult means that technically I am on my own and need to start being independent.

I don't know... but that scared me.

This past week has been a huge dance week for me. I got called into five different dance auditions. Dance auditions are different then acting ones. For acting, you audition and then wait for a call. When it comes to dance, you typically get typed cast first. Which means that the choreographer looks at you and determines if you look the part. They will either ask you to stay or leave. Then if you make it past that round, you learn the combo, audition in small groups, then they ask you to stay or leave. They continue that process until they get it down to the final group that they cast.

I think that dance auditions are more imitating then acting because you get told yes or no right to your face.
Through growing my thick skin, I have also gained a lot of understanding when it comes to "my path."

It says numerous times in the bible that God has a path created for you, that leads you directly to Him. He knows all about you even before you are born.

Thinking about that, for me, is mind blowing. Someone actually knows where you will be in 12 hours, 34 minutes, and 17 seconds. THAT IS CRAZY!

I have been able to turn that thought into my career. Understanding that when I get "cut" at an audition, it is all apart of God's plan for my life. I have to accept it, put it behind me, and move on.

God really does know what you can and can't do in your life because of the future He has created for you.

A perfect example was when I was competing at Miss California's Outstanding Teen. It wasn't up to me whether or not I won. It was up to God and I accepted that He will determine my fate. It worked out perfectly in the fact that I didn't win. If you win, you go onto compete at Miss America's Outstanding Teen. The same week that the national pageant was, I was shooting G L E E. God knew I couldn't win because He was going to use me in another way!

Going back to my first few sentences when mentioning about 2011...my year has gone somewhere. Every step I take is a step closer to seeing my Father. Every time I get cut at an audition, I have to trust that my feet will guide me to something better along my path.
My feet cannot waiver. They cannot shake. They cannot take a step back. For God is with me and will guide and direct me in the way HE wants me to walk. Not the way I want.

What is going on in your life? Has something not gone your way? How did you react? Did you get upset and have a negative attitude the rest of the day. Then you are taking a step back on your path. God makes all things work together for YOUR good. He isn't out to hurt you or make you upset.

The last thing He wants is for you to be in a bad mood. You have no idea when your feet will run out of room on your path. It might be in 50 years, 10 years, 5 months, 3 weeks, tonight. We have no control over your path.

People ask me all the time how I can be so positive when I am dealing with the things in my life. A lot of people ask me this after being cut at an audition and wonder why I handle rejection so well. It is a simple answer for me.
I don't know when my last breath will be, so I am not going to waste my current breaths by being upset or down. You shouldn't either.

Trust each step God forces your feet to take. Whether you like it or not, it will eventually work out with God's will.adrienneberryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04338831569442214065noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2141693286369224539.post-78498888969217736552011-11-02T23:10:00.000-07:002011-11-02T23:10:01.261-07:00Don't Disqualify YourselfHave you ever stopped in the pitch dark and complete silence, when you are all alone to listen to God's words? I think that is when you are the most raw. Nothing to distract you. However, life is full of distractions.

All of us have a starting line. It was created before we were born, and we were able to take our first step across it when we were born. Every individuals race is different.

For me, I was in and out of the hospital many times when I was a child. From having a cyst at birth to having a hernia at 3 months.

I immediately started my race with some trials.

As I started to grow and form into a child, my race began to smooth out. I was doing well in school, dance, and even gained a new love of running in 3rd grade.

When middle school began, I had a little bit of a harder time in school because I put my focus more on dance and running. However, I quickly learned that some "things" need to be rearranged in my order of priorities!

High school has been a different experience for me than it is for most teenagers. Going to a charter school, basically teaching myself, has taught me a lot! A whole new level of time management, that is for sure! Of course I am still running and dancing, but I also picked up a new love of acting.

While I was in my high school years, God "blessed" me with a storm. Well, many storms. It began with my back. Having severe scoliosis has changed my life. Having a severe multifactorial disorder that only affects 68,000 people in the United States leaves me speechless. Living within a plastic cast gave me a new appreciation for disabilities. Along with that, I dealt with my aunt dying from breast cancer within 4 weeks of finding out she was diagnosed. On top of that, I am going through all of the teenage problems and family situations.

If you look back at the start of that paragraph, I said that God "blessed" me with a storm. Yes, I consider all of those things to be a blessing.

Romans 8:28 reads:
And we know that God causes all things to work together for the good of those that love God and are called according to His purpose for them.

Matthew 15:28 reads:
Jesus said to her, "Women, you have great faith! Your request is granted." And her daughter was healed at that moment.

John 20:27 reads:
Stop doubting and believe.

Matthew 17:7 reads:
..."Get up," he said. "Don't be afraid..."

Matthew 17:20 reads:
"You don't have enough faith," Jesus told them. "I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it would move. NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE."

Those are a few of my favorite bible verses.

Once we step over that starting line, we are putting our trust in the Lord to lead us according to His plan for our life. Are you letting Him?

Even if trials come into your life, you have to remember God put them there for a reason.

You have to learn how to handle the curves, hills, and the occasional punch in the stomach. Sometimes we disqualify ourselves from the race. We don't think we can handle it or we give up. Hey, we can't give up, we have to rise up. When challenge arises, grab that opportunity to turn things around in your life.

God has an assignment for you to live out. Be bold, courageous, obedient, and determined.
Put on the armour of God and prepare for battle. However, you will notice there isn't much armour for your backside. That is because you aren't supposed to run away from battle, you are supposed to run straight into it.

Don't disqualify yourself. Imagine the light you will see after the storm passes. Rise up and reach for that light.adrienneberryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04338831569442214065noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2141693286369224539.post-3121526305161306562011-10-23T20:27:00.000-07:002011-10-23T20:27:22.872-07:00Fox Hole FriendsA wise person once said, "Your five closest friends are a reflection of you."

Do you find that to be true? Right now, make a list of your five closest friends. If they had to "do" something in your place today, would they embarrass you or make you happy?

For us, we are a reflection of Christ Jesus. So, in a sense our friends are also a reflection of Christ Jesus....if we are who we say we are.

Go to that list you made and answer these questions.
1. Do you feel good about yourself when you are around them?
2. What do you talk about? Gossip? Drama?
3. Is what you talk about making you a better person?
4. Do you feel like you have to "win" a place in their life?
5. Are you being a good reflection of Christ when you are around them?

Don't lie to yourself when you are answering those questions. We all know that we have the friends that we want to be around because they are more popular, richer, older, more successful, or prettier. But those things can't define who we are. Sure they can make people look at us for a little while but then the fascination wears off. People begin to see the real you or get tired of being friends with a fake.

The definition of a friend is, "someone who gives assistance."

A friend should be helping you climb the next step in your life, move that mountain, and always be holding your hand and assisting you.
Not breaking you down, putting you in danger, or making you act like someone you aren't. You need to surround yourself with the opposite and remove those that aren't bringing you up through Christ.

When you meet someone you always try to put on your "best". When you think about it, your best isn't the real you. It is who you want to be, when you want it be. The real you is who you are when you are behind closed doors. THAT person is what you need to show to people. If you aren't happy with THAT person, then you need to ask God to help you change.

When you surround yourself with people who aren't afraid to NOT always be their best, who are always there assist you, be a shoulder to lean on, and be courageous enough to stand out and be a reflection of Christ, then you know you have a solid friend. AND THAT is where the Devil with come in.

The Devil will come with all guns loaded ready to kill, steal, and destroy. He wants nothing more than for you to be all alone in this world. He will push every avenue He can to break up your friendship. However, if you are both in a walk with Christ, Satan will stand no chance.

You and your friend (s) have to stand by each other no matter what. No lie, rumor, or misguidance will break you apart because those are all things from the Devil.

Having friends is like being in a battle at all times. You are always protecting one another from the enemy, Satan.

The definition for "fox hole" is, "a small pit, usually for one or two soldiers, dug as a shelter in a battle area."

You have to be fox hole friends. Willing to put your life at risk for each other. Being courageous enough to stand up together, rise above everyone else, and show that the Devil cannot break down your shelter. BECAUSE God is the greatest friend, father, leader, and commander of all.adrienneberryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04338831569442214065noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2141693286369224539.post-80481373042851025362011-10-12T23:21:00.000-07:002011-10-12T23:21:37.098-07:00The Big 18Turning 18 is a milestone in your life!
I was privileged to spend it with my mom and sister. For my gift, my mom flew my sister and me to Denver, Colorado to run the marathon (she and Rachel ran it) and the half marathon (I ran it)! While we were there, I was able to catch up with one of my best friends who used to live in LA, Ashlan and her brother Adam.

The Denver weather (for this weekend) was much different than California weather! It was cold, rainy, and snowy! My skin and nose is very sensitive to this weather, so they weren't too happy! :( Also, Denver is much higher in altitude than L.A..

The whole altitude difference was what we were most nervous about for the race. We just tried not to think about it too much and act as if it was simply another race.

I was feeling pretty well during the first 6 miles of the race. I do have a very sensitive stomach, so every time I took a fluid, I could feel my stomach turn. Around 6.5 miles, they gave us cytomax for the first time. (It is just like Gatorade) I took one sip, as I was still running, and my stomach turned to knots and my throat closed up. I began choking on the drink! Which then caused me to "throw up."

However, I NEVER STOPPED RUNNING! I think that was what I was most proud of :)

I have had many injuries and tight muscles throughout this training process. I came to a point where I said, "Alright, my goal is just to finish without walking."
No matter how much pain I ran into, how weak I felt, or how sick I was, I didn't want to walk.

After I "got" everything "up," my body physically felt weak. I wasn't sure if it was the fact that I had been running for an hour or that I just got sick. Oh, or the fact that it was 30 degrees and I was cold and we were running uphill.

I turned to my last resort, finding a good song on my Ipod. Even my Mercy Me songs seemed to be so slow. I really needed something to carry me through the last half of the race.
So, at mile 8 I started praying.

My attitude began to change. My pace picked up and I just remember thinking, I could be in a hospital bed being treated for cancer.

Then mile 12 came... it was all uphill. OH NO! Growing up I was a decent hill runner. Now though, it spikes up pain in my knees. But hey, I WASN'T GOING TO WALK!

I pushed up that hill. The only thing I was saying was, "The sooner I get up the hill, the sooner I am done."

I made it up the hill and saw the 13 mile sign! THAT MEANT I ONLY HAVE .1 MILES TO GO!

I yelled PRAISE THE LORD!!!! I got a whole new energy in me that I hadn't felt at all in the race.
Clearly, it was the grace of God giving me a nice strong finish.

Also, at the same exact time, my favorite Christian song, You Are by Jason Castro, came on my Ipod. I finally found a song that seemed uplifting!

God is always pushing us to new extremes. Even if we don't think we can handle it, He knows we can. He gives us talents for us to use, wisdom to achieve, and love so we never feel alone.

Remember,
"I can do ALL things through Christ who gives me strength!"adrienneberryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04338831569442214065noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2141693286369224539.post-34479300766251132502011-10-01T14:33:00.000-07:002011-10-01T14:33:48.620-07:00Be a F I G H T E RLast night when I was laying in bed, I was trying to remember everything I did throughout the day. From brushing my teeth to going to an audition. I realized, we do a lot more in a day then we think!

A lot of the different things that we do may cause stress, pain, anger, sadness, or happiness.

Try to remember what you have done today. Did something put you in a bad mood? How did you react when "IT" happened?

God puts storms in our life for a purpose. There is no doubting that. However, the real storm is how we handle it.

Do you get angry with someone? Do you doubt God? Do you become upset and think of the worse?

Or..
Do you get on your knees, pray and cry out to God, get up, go on with your day, and trust in Him?

Most people tend to do the first thing. When we should really do the second.

God has every single step that we take planned out. He has had them planned since before we were born. So, why would you NOT trust Him? He knows what the outcome will be and He promises to take care of us.

When a lot of people find pain, they tend to give up and give in to Satan. When you are at your weakest, Satan is at his strongest. If you let one bad thought cross your mind, Satan is starting his web that will soon have you trapped.

Each morning when you wake up, you should pray the Armour of God on you. To protect you from things or ideas from Satan. But, you also need to put on your boxing gloves.

Be ready to fight back. Be ready to yell at Satan. Be ready to defeat Satan.

If you follow me on Twitter (@adrienneberry), you would know that I tweet... A LOT! I have copied and pasted some of my tweets from this week that apply to this blog. Before you go read them, I will leave you with this...

If you are going through a storm, having pain, or sadness in your life, nothing compares to the pain that Jesus felt hanging on the cross. Imagine nails going through your hands and feet and being beaten to death. He did that, so you could have life. Whenever you think your world is turned upside down and you are angry or upset, always remember the pain God went through. It is nothing compared to what we are complaining about.
The pain may be extreme but that will make the victory so much stronger. A fighter needs to focus on the prize not the price.
You are a liar, and you will always be defeated bc I'm a fighter!
YIKES!

As many of you know, last night my Glee episode aired. I was privileged to play the role of Pendelton and was able to sing, dance, and act.

I shot this episode about a month ago and I was on cloud nine that I even booked the job! Counting down the days until it aired, I got more nervous every day. Wondering how I looked, which take they went with, and many other things.

I am from Indiana, so many of my family and friends were able to see it before I was! (Indiana is 3 hours ahead of CA) My mom was there and she said that I looked very cute, but my lines were cut.

As an actress, that is my biggest fear. When just being a guest star on a show, you never know what they are going to do with your lines. The writers and producers main focus in an episode is on the MAIN cast, so if they are over in time and need to cut something, they tend to go to the guest star.

When my mom told me this I was sick to my stomach and immediately started crying. I was thinking:
What did I do wrong?
It is a clear indication that they didn't like me.
I must have been awful.

It didn't even occur to me that there could be a time issue or even the fact that maybe my lines just didn't fit in. Both of those things were the case.

In that moment (and about the next 20) I was so mad at God. Wondering why He blessed me with that speaking part and then take it away? How could He get my hopes up and then do that to me?

I was crushed.

I was with my sister when all of this took place. She kept saying to me, "I can't believe the way you are acting right now. SO many people would kill to be in your position, to even have that opportunity. People would even kill to take a step on that set." I understood what she was saying but I was so caught up in feeling sorry for myself. Then she said "You are letting God down."

That hit me. I knew that I had let God down and I became so afraid that He wouldn't forgive me.

When the show came on that night, I still had speaking lines. Just not all of them. Plus I was seen a lot in the dance! I was more than happy and I was ashamed at how I acted to God earlier.

There is no reason for you to ever doubt God. He always knows what is best for you. Even if it hurts, there is always a smile and His open arms waiting to hold you.

Romans 8:28 says--
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

I asked God for forgiveness. And just like that, He forgave me. How often do you doubt something? Think you aren't good enough? Or even question "why"?

You don't need to ask or doubt. God has everything already planned and it will all work out if you stay faithful to Him. Forever and always! adrienneberryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04338831569442214065noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2141693286369224539.post-71325917506707829442011-08-29T17:12:00.000-07:002011-08-29T21:54:18.303-07:00TurbulenceMany people love to travel. I know I do! It is always nice to take a break from "reality" and simply relax.
A lot of people drive to their destination but a higher percentage fly on an airplane.

I have never liked the whole process of flying. First of all, it is so stressful (especially at LAX!) to get over all of the lanes to find the right airline to be dropped off at. Then you have to wait in line to check in. After you have your ticket, you can proceed to the longest line of all. SECURITY! Once you have been patted down and they have put your bags through the screening about 4 times, you can finally go to your gate.

Once you get on the airplane, you realize that because of that process a lot of people are stressed out, cranky, nervous, or snippy.

After putting your bags up or under the seat in front of you, the flight attendant comes over the announcements with what to do during an emergency.

I always look around to see how people are acting during the time the flight attendant is speaking. I usually find one of two things... People reading or people who are extremely nervous (first time passengers!) and the flight attendant is making it worse because they are pointing out the real problems that could occur.

For me, take off always seems to go smoothly. I typically watch a DVD on the ride or sleep when it is a smooth ride.

However, it isn't always a smooth ride.... and you can't control it.

Turbulence is a real heart pounder. It gets your attention and scares you a bit. If you look out your window, all you can see are clouds. That for me is the scariest part. You have no clue what is going on, where you are, and how you could potentially crash.

What do you do when turbulence in an airplane occurs?
What do you do when turbulence in your life occurs?

Turbulence is a violent or unsteady movement.

It tends to occur ALL the time. How do you react?

In the airplane, I grab the arm rest, close my eyes, and all I say is "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus".
In my life, I sit down, (if my bible is near) grab my bible, close my eyes, and all I say is "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus".

God doesn't say following Him will be easy. If it was easy, everyone would do it.
He puts trials and tribulations in our life for a reason. He wants to see us grow closer to Him, test our Faith, and show us what is truly important.
It isn't to hurt you or make your life horrible. He has a good reason for everything, even if it takes some hurt to get there.

One of my favorite songs, by Mandisa, is titled "Stronger".

Below is my favorite verse and chorus:

"Cause if He started this work in your life
He will be faithful to complete it
If only you believe it
He knows how much it hurts
And I'm sure that He's gonna help you get through this
He knows that this is gonna make you stronger, stronger
The pain ain't gonna last forever
I was decent then...but not compared to the professional singers in LA!

My managers and agents are always sending me out on auditions for "singers" or "triple threats". I always do my best with my singing, but I never am fully confident with it.

3 weeks ago, I had an audition for Glee. As we all know, Glee is a full on triple threat show. I immediately started freaking out because I knew they would ask me to sing in the audition.

Then I realized freaking out isn't going to make me a better singer.

How often do we get freaked out? Is it really going to better the situation?

The answer is no.

Only God can better a situation.

Once I realized this, I just started to pray coverage over my vocal chords.

I have never felt that confident singing in front of people. It still may not have been the best singing voice at the audition, but I know my confidence sold it.

God clearly took my weakness and used it for my good.

What is your weakness that God can use for good?

As many of you know, I have been taking little breaks here and there from it but when I wouldn't be on a break, I was using up almost all of my day on it.

Facebook is a great tool for communication. Along with networking, allowing people to see your pictures of new adventures, and keeping my friends and family updated with what I have been doing.

I loved getting on Facebook in the morning to see if I had new notifications...that was it! However, I saw that "Brittney" posted new pictures from the other night, which "Sarah" was also at, so of course I had to check them out!! 40 minutes later I look at the clock and see that I wasted 40 minutes that God so generously gave me. Who knows, I could only live for 40 more minutes and I just wasted the past 40 minutes.

I decided to pray about the decision to delete my Facebook and I finally did. People are asking me why...so here is a short answer:

I need to spend more time on God, school, and my career. I have to learn to focus my energy on making myself a better person, through Christ, and I am not doing that by being on Facebook. You never know when your life will be taken away, so go out and live your life!!

Now I will get to the heart of this blog. As I mentioned in the paragraph above, I need to spend more time on God and my career. I began to think that in the end those two go hand in hand.

What is your career? Is your career something that makes you happy? What is your motive to have that career?

For me, my career is acting and dancing. I have been pursuing this since I was 5 years old. It is what I absolutely love!

For that last question, how would you expect a teen (that wants to be an actress) to answer that question?
I have heard so many different answers.
"I want to be famous"
"I want my name to be known in this world"
"I want MONEY"

The list continues. But when you look at that little list above, who are those reasons benefiting?

The answer is easy. You.

God is the one who blessed us with all of our talents and opportunities. Not ourselves. We need to have a career that gives back to Him. Yes, you need to make an income...but when you make your money, how are you spending it? Do you deserve that money?
Why do you want to be "famous"? Just so you can live the lifestyle of the rich and famous?

Think about the people in third-world countries. Don't you think they dream of those things too? Maybe...but I am pretty sure they dream of having food on their table for the rest of the week.

Before you go off and spend your money on unnecessary articles, think of where God would want you to spend the money HE BLESSED YOU WITH. When you think of a career, is it something that glorifies God, or is it because you want to promote yourself?

I guess I should tell you what I want to do with my career.
I don't want to be an actress for the rich and famous lifestyle. My goal is to become a known actress so I can bring our teens to Christ.
Yes, being an actress does pay well. But I don't want the money for me. My goal is to end up sponsoring over three kids in a third-world country, before I am 28. (A little over 10 years from now)

A career is a privilege/blessing from God. Don't abuse it.adrienneberryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04338831569442214065noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2141693286369224539.post-70337698328407359262011-07-25T11:51:00.000-07:002011-07-25T11:51:21.705-07:00Are You Changed....Or Just Adding? What a week it has been! I am back in school, so that is why I haven't been blogging as much. I apologize! Yesterday at church we talked studied Ephesians 4:17-32. The whole chapter is in regards to the changes you go through once you repent.

When you repent from your sins, you can't just look immediately in the mirror and say "hmm, I don't see anything different!"

When you repent, you are turning away from your sins. Which ultimately comes from the inside. You don't sin unless you think about it...which is inside.

When you confess your sins, God accepts you and his goal is to change you to be as Christ like as you can be. However, he can't do it on his own. You need to help.

How much time do you spend on Facebook?
You need to spend AT LEAST that much time in the Bible.

When you get dressed to go out at night, do you look in the mirror and have question whether or not your top will cover everything?
If you have to question what you are wearing, then you know it isn't appropriate.

When you speak...do your words build people up?
Cussing is a sin. Your words should be full of grace.

When you repent and turn from your old sins, you are supposed to turn from your old ways. Put on the new clothes and the new life. You can't stay in your old clothes with your old life.

The title of this blog is "Are You Changed...Or Just Adding."
Are you changing your life for God? Are you trying to be more Christ-like in your everyday activities?
OR
Are you keeping your old ways and just adding God into your life?

"Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God-truly righteous and holy." --Ephesians 4:21-24

All that God wants is for you to turn away from your sins. Clean your mind and body from ungodly thoughts and doings. Take off the old and put on the new, once and for all.adrienneberryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04338831569442214065noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2141693286369224539.post-60723277101283004472011-07-13T11:03:00.000-07:002011-07-13T11:03:15.845-07:00The Biggest ComplaintI always have a hard time "not complaining" about things. Don't get me wrong, I am a very happy person. It is just the little things that get me a little heated.

I think the thing I find myself complaining about the most is school. I go to a year round school. Even though it is summer, I am in school.

This morning I decided to search the top ten biggest things people complain about. School wasn't in the top ten! Of course I found many lists and they were all different...but what I calculated to be the biggest complaint was betrayers.

Then I got to thinking, when you meet someone you have 7 seconds to make a good impression. IT IS YOUR responsibility to keep up that good impression.

If you had the mind set that every time you have an encounter with someone, even if you have met them, it should be like a first impression, then we wouldn't have betrayers.

However, people like to judge. People like to spread rumors. P E O P L E. L I K E. D R A M A.

Being a teenager, I have been able to realize why people like "drama" so much.

It is because the attention is on you.

What if everyone had their attention on God?

You know, gossip is a sin.

If we all had our attention on God, people couldn't spread rumors or create drama.

You know, judging is a sin.

If we all had our attention on God, people couldn't judge one another.

Don't you think we would all be a lot happier if we lived through God's light?

Yes, God does put you through hard times. But he promises a light at the end of the tunnel....if you stay faithful to Him.

My challenge for you this week is to NOT COMPLAIN. Your life will be much happier. Even if you are going through a rough time, God is there to help you. Turn to him for all of your needs.

My good friend, Lauren North, posted this the other week:

"If you are going through a rough time, remember... YOU ARE GOING THROUGH IT."

Always remember that if you stay strong in HIM, you will see light at the end of the tunnel. Don't gossip or betray someone to get the attention on you. You already have God's attention....that should be enough.
adrienneberryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04338831569442214065noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2141693286369224539.post-79885479861317745722011-07-06T20:56:00.000-07:002011-07-06T20:56:20.744-07:00"Broken" HollywoodWhen you hear about teenage celebrities, you usually hear about how messed up they have become.
Drugs.
Alcohol.
Shop Lifting.

And the list goes on.

Yes, there are the celebrities that work for charities and don't stray from their moral compass...but why don't we hear about them?
That is because in this world scandal is what sells.

That is the main reason I want to be in the entertainment industry is because I want to spread my light. God's light.

I know for a fact that the only reason I am happy is because I am at peace with my life. Even when I see things shaking or crumbling, I am still at peace. I know that God is putting me through it to make me stronger and learn from it.
I want others to feel that peace and to be able to smile because they know that they can't control a single thing in their life.

When I go into an audition or into a pageant, I always say, "God already knows how this will turn out."

The best piece of advice I can give you on "finding peace" is to relax and look at the roof over your head. Look at the food on your plate. Then thank God for another day of breathing!

Don't give into the things of this world. They won't make you happy and they will ruin your reputation just like the teen celebrities. No matter how much more popular it will make you, it will make those kids think you are something....you know you're not.

Be smart. Be Christ-like.adrienneberryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04338831569442214065noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2141693286369224539.post-66807887355858278922011-07-02T11:02:00.000-07:002011-07-02T11:02:47.811-07:00Friday NightFriday nights are my favorite. No, I don't spend it out on the town.

Every Friday night is youth group at my church. From 6-8 I am able to spend time in the most peaceful building, praise and worshiping our Creator, and being around my brothers and sisters.

Yesterday our message was on priorities. Our speaker kept reflecting back on "the biggest rock in your life".

What is your biggest rock? What SHOULD consume most of your time? What/who is most important to you?

For me personally, my biggest rock is God.

Then you work down the list of what is next and so on.

We only get 24 hours in a day. The worst part is, we never get those seconds, minutes, or hours back. We need to spend them wisely, with our big rock the center of our days.

What if your mom died driving home from work tomorrow and today she asked you to go to the store with her? You said no because you wanted to video chat with your friend.

In my mind, anyone could die tomorrow. That is reality. Who is more important? A friend you have known for a few years and once you are out of school you most likely won't talk to again? ........OR your mom. Who gave birth to you. Has spent the last 17 (for me) years having you being the focus of her days. The one who after you graduate from high school will still be there.

You need to look back on who/what is most important in your life and treat them/it like it is that important.

Our speaker last night shared this:
"Rocks are like priorities. Only so many rocks can fit in a jar. Only so many activities can fit in a week. The issue isn't prioritizing your schedule, but scheduling your priorities."

Put the big rocks first.adrienneberryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04338831569442214065noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2141693286369224539.post-53821591379631731002011-06-30T10:30:00.000-07:002011-06-30T10:30:49.355-07:00I'm Back and BETTER THAN EVER!After a year of training for the Miss California's Outstanding Teen pageant, I can finally relax. It is over. (Insert tear here!)

The pageant experience looks like this:
Friday: Arrive in Fresno
Sat.: Contestant/Parent Meeting, rehearsals, BBQ
Sun.: Interviews, rehearsals
Mon.: Rehearsals
Tues.: FIRST DAY OF PRELIM COMP!
Wed.: SECOND DAY OF PRELIM COMP!
Thur.: THIRD DAY OF PRELIM COMP!
Fri.: TEEN FINALS!
Sat.: Miss Finals

As you can see it is a jammed packed week. Then after that my mom took us on a road-trip!!! I have never been on a road trip this fun....we played Christmas music at one point!!!

Last year at the pageant, I walked away with not a single award. Everyone kept telling me, "You should have been in the top ten." I just kept telling myself, "God has something better in store for me. Believe it."

On Feb. 6th, when I won the Miss Hollywood Pageant, I figured out the better in the situation. God was humbling me for this years adventure. He gave me one of the best committees, a new attitude, and the ability of not being cocky (or desperate).

This year, I walked away winning prelim talent, evening gown, and onstage question. I also placed 3rd runner-up to Miss California's Outstanding Teen 2011!

This was just another time God came thru to prove He is better than all of this.

When I was at the pageant I found my favorite bible verse.
John 20:27
Stop doubting and believe.

I remind myself of that quote every morning, every afternoon, and every evening.adrienneberryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04338831569442214065noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2141693286369224539.post-75278677964791745782011-06-16T12:30:00.000-07:002011-06-17T18:40:49.413-07:00Off I go!The Miss America Organization has become a HUGE part of my life. I have been watching the Miss America pageant for the longest time and I went to watch my first local pageant when I was 13. I always knew I wanted to compete but I knew I couldn't until God made it available to me.

My sister is in her second year competing in the MAO. The "Miss" level is ages 17-24. I am in my second year as well, but in the Miss America's Outstanding Teen Organization! The teen program is open to girls ages 13-17.

First you compete at a local community pageant. If you win that, you join all of the other title holders across your state and compete for the state title. The winner of that then goes onto the famous Miss America Pageant! (The same goes for the teen pageant...it is just a separate competition!)

Rachel and I are so blessed to be going to Miss California and Miss California's Outstanding Teen pageant for the second year! WE LEAVE TOMORROW!!!!

The pageant takes place in Fresno, California (middle of CA) for 8 days.

Below is my schedule for competition....

Sunday night: 8 minute private interview with the judges

Tuesday night: Evening Gown Pre-lim

Wednesday night: Talent Pre-lim

Thursday night: Fitness Pre-lim

Friday night: FINALS FOR TEENS! (The top 10 will be announced and then they re-compete for the title of MCOT!)

I am not nervous going into this year's competition because I know God has already decided how I am going to do.

However, I continue to ask for your prayers for safe travels, wonderful interview, and to shine God's light on stage. (ALSO PRAY FOR RACHEL!)

This prayer was written by our wonderful Miss America, Teresa Scanlan!

"Dear God, please help me to be a diligent servant not only today but from here on out. Give me the strength and wisdom to accurately handle your word of truth and the diligence and perseverance necessary to be a worker who is not ashamed. I wish to be a shining light for you, a glowing example of who you are, and a grain of salt in a tasteless world. Whether or not this is achieved through a position, crown, title, or job, please place me exactly where you need me to be an effective ambassador for you. I am clay in your hands, your humble servant, willing to do whatever you wish for me in your perfect plan. I love you so much and thank you for blessing me so tremendously and bestowing such outstanding opportunity on me. My greatest wish is to exemplify your love through my words and actions in order to bring others to you."

God gives it to you but you are only a tenant of it. It will soon be gone."

How do you treat your clothes? Do you throw them on the floor? Do you get them dirty and treat them like dirt?

What about your yard; Do you let weeds grow? Do you mow your lawn? Do you water your flowers?

What about time; Do you WISH you could have done something today but instead you were on facebook?

We waste so many things every single day. God gave you that shirt as a gift. He can easily not give you another one. Or what about that yard? You have been blessed to have a yard. A lot of people live on dirt in other countries and wish they could have a yard. But most importantly, time. Are you miserable with what you are doing? Your job?

Think about it this way.... once a minute goes by... you never get it back.

Ephesians 5:15-16
Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.

Understand that your days are numbered. Are you living them how you know God wants you to? adrienneberryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04338831569442214065noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2141693286369224539.post-31213181018090155982011-06-12T09:00:00.000-07:002011-06-12T15:35:09.291-07:00Happy or Dreadful?A lot of people say they aren't a "morning person." I understand that no one likes to wake up early...but you should be happy that you wake up.

This week I was honored to visit the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, as Miss Hollywood's Outstanding Teen. I visited many different wings of the hospital, including the cancer wing.

There was one little boy who looked to be about 4 that was being treated. Then the tour guide showed us his mom who couldn't even sit in the same room as her son because of his illness. He was playing with toys and appeared to be so happy.

Think back to this morning...Were you happy when you woke up? Did you think "PRAISE GOD! I HAVE ANOTHER DAY TO LIVE!"? Or did you say "UGH, IT IS MORNING. ANOTHER DAY TO WORK."?

I bet I know what that little boy in the hospital room thought...
"I am so happy I am alive for one more day."

I have heard it in many different settings, but I hear it everyday. It may be in a conversation with my mom, sister, or even friends. However, those simple "No's" don't mean that much to me.

Being apart of the entertainment industry, is kind of a depressing situation. They say you hear 9 "No's" before you hear 1 "YES!" That statement is very true.

A lot of times, producers tell you "no" for the silliest things. Here are a few reasons I have heard:

1. Wrong color hair
2. Wrong color eyes
3. Too short
4. Too young (looking)
5. Too big of chest
6. Hair is too short

Those are just a few that I hear all the time.

I have trained myself to brush those things off my shoulder and move on. You know you can't go back and change their mind, so what is the point of being upset about it any more? However, sometimes I get to the point where I simply ask God, when am I going to hear "YES?"

What's wrong with me?
Am I supposed to be acting?
I really needed this job, in order to make my agents happy.
SHOULD I GO HOME?

I used to find myself asking God those questions EVERY SINGLE DAY...
Until I finally heard Him yell at me... "GET SATAN OUT OF YOUR HEAD! WOULD YOU REALLY THINK I WOULD MOVE YOU OUT TO CALIFORNIA, IF THERE WASN'T A PURPOSE FOR YOU TO BE OUT HERE?!"

Matthew 18:20 reads:
"You don't have enough faith," Jesus told them. "I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it would move. Nothing would be impossible."

We all have to trust that God has a purpose for every move He makes us take. Even though I keep hearing "No", I know that it is because God didn't want me to have that job. He knows what I love to do and He will put that to good use, because I trust in Him...You should too.adrienneberryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04338831569442214065noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2141693286369224539.post-60472708560936048152011-06-09T10:04:00.000-07:002011-06-09T10:04:16.143-07:00True FriendsBeing a teenager takes life to a whole new level. Wether it be in relationships, schooling, family, or sports...our teenage years are a struggle.

Since I don't go to a normal high-school, I have a hard time finding friends. I attend 4 acting classes a week at the same place. All of us that take the class are like a family. However, we go to class to learn good techniques and become better at our craft. We aren't there to socialize and make friends.

I remember a few times, after class, I would come home and be crying to my mom about how I wasn't included in something. I thought something was wrong with me. Questions started running through my head; Why wasn't I apart of that? Do they not like me, my personality? What can I change about myself to fit in with them?

It was that last question that really hit me. So, I began to change. I thought that I would be happier if I had friends...even if they didn't accept me for who I REALLY was. I started to hide my personality (because I thought it was annoying), I acted more grown up, I even changed my wardrobe a little bit.

These "friends" accepted me and started sharing these stories about parties they went to, sneaking out of their houses, and lying to their parents. When I started hearing these things, those questions started coming back through my head; What is she talking about? Why am I here? WHO HAVE I BECOME?

I once again came home and took my anger out on my mom and sister. I went upstairs and just went to bed, thinking it would all go away.

It didn't go away because of sleep.
It went away because of God.

The next morning I read my bible and the verse that hit home was "1 Corinthians 15:33 Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”

I listened to God's guidance...
I was told to still hang out with these people, as the real me.
When I hang out with them, don't give into their sin, but turn there sin around into glory.

I still talk with these people and shine God's light on them. I have seen a change in many of them. However, the best part is that they accept the TRUE me.

Now that I have let my personality come back out, I have a few best friends....and I know that with them, family, and God... that is all I need. adrienneberryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04338831569442214065noreply@blogger.com0
